Merci, An!

I will never fear zippers again.

This cute little bubble dress is Straight Grain's peplum bubble dress.  The pattern is free and you can download it from the website (after liking the page so it seems). Thanks An!

I have had the pattern for a bit but the fact that it involved inserting a (concealed or invisible) zipper (you could use buttons but buttonholes are another problem, my machine seems to dislike them) gave me enough reason to postpone the project.

Finally I decided to sew it and not only did I face the zipper situation - but I decided to line the bodice (I was not too excited about the zipper sitting on my baby's raw skin in the summer), which would of course complicate the procedure even further.

Fortunately, the web galaxy is full of very generous people willing to share their skills and I found this amazing tutorial on how to insert a concealed zipper on a lined bodice (which involved catching the zipper tape between the outer fabric and the lining). Thanks Jennifer!

The fabric is a pure cotton from Fabrics Galore in Battersea, I have no idea who from but it is of a very nice quality!

  1. What a gorgeous version of the peplum bubble dress! I absolutely love it in this fabric. And you did such a great job lining the dress! Great that you're helping me to spread the word on how EASY it is to insert a blind zipper :-)
So much faster than buttons, isn't it?
